World religion classes to be offered

| December 20, 2023

Ann Leppla will be offering three classes on different world religions in January. On Sunday, Jan. 7, the class will be about Judaism. The Islamic faith will be taught on Sunday, Jan. 14 and the class will study Buddhism on Sunday, Jan. 21. All classes will be from 9:15 – 10 a.m. in the parlor of the Presbyterian Church on Chestnut Street.

Leppla said she was watching TV one night when she realized that every religion is basically the same. “They all say to do good, help others and serve the poor. They just go about this in different ways.”

She said the classes will be about the culture of the religion – how they celebrate wedding and death and their traditions, not a deep religious lecture.

“I want this to be fun for everyone with some education, too,” Leppla said. “I’m excited to teach this.” She has special snacks planned for each week that will follow the religion’s guidelines and also has a group of dancers lined up for the first week to show traditional dances of the Jewish faith.

Everyone in seventh grade to adults, is invited to the classes and they are free. To register, call the Presbyterian Church office at 740-622-0486.

Leppla said she is hoping to have a wide variety of ages and religions attend the classes and that people are welcome to attend one class or two, if they can’t make it to all three.
