COSHOCTON – When the children’s garden opens at Clary Gardens it will bear the artistic work of children from the community.

Children of all ages were invited to come out to the gardens on June 6 for a rock painting craft and on June 13 at 10:45 a.m. to paint another craft for the new children’s garden which will open on Saturday, June 17.

“We are going to have several exhibits out there for children,” said Jandi Adams, executive director of Clary Gardens. “There will be a 24 foot crawl through monarch caterpillar, beanpole teepees that they can play in and that will be grown up by the end of summer, big truck tires out there filled up with different things like sand and soil and the whole area will be mulched.”

There also will be natural playground equipment like stumps the children can jump back and forth from and wooden balance beams made from wood found on the gardens’ property.

“We are really working together with Anne from the Pomerene Center, Patty at the museum and Roscoe to make more activities available for children especially in the arts this summer,” Adams said.

Sherry Roderick enjoys bringing her children out to Clary Gardens and was excited to get them involved in their summer craft projects.

“The kids love doing crafts and painting so this was right up their alley,” she said. “Even the little one likes to color and paint.”

Roderick’s children Zoey, 2, Kylie, 10 and Jennifer 14 each took part in the rock painting craft.

“They love it up here,” Sherry said. “It’s one of their favorite places to come.”

Natalie Strange and Hannah McVay also had fun at the rock painting activity.

“Crafts are fun because they are messy,” said McVay as she and Strange held up their paint splattered hands.

They were planning on taking some of their rocks home and leaving some for the garden.

“Crafts are something fun for us to do if we are bored,” Strange said.

The children’s creations can be viewed during the children’s garden grand opening at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 17. For more on Clary Gardens, visit www.clarygardens.org. The gardens are located at 588 W. Chestnut St.
